Celebrate Mama!

Come Celebrate Mama with us in Rockville Town Center May 5! What does that mean? It means come hang out with us at a free event, with live entertainment, giveaways, a fun vendor marketplace (we'll be there!) and lots more!

What do you do with your weekends? Hike? Hang out? Watch sports on TV? Head for the playground? Picnic? Run errands? Let's put all that aside for one day, and take the family out to see what's going on. There's a lot to see and do - fun activities for the kids, fun shopping and entertainment for the grown-ups. This is an annual festival with events all around the country - and it might give you ideas for mother's day gifts ;)

Don't forget to stop by and say hi to Christine and Rachel!

Reading to Children - Keeping the Books!

Last week we talked about reading to your kids... but what do you do with all the books? Some of us (ahem, like me) have a lot of books for their kids. When it goes past the point of a stack of books arranged sweetly on a nightstand... what do you do with them? Well, let's browse some ideas! (Don't forget, you can get all of these at Daisy Baby!)

For a few books on a shelf, what about the New Arrivals bookends?
Or for a non-shelf solution, New Arrivals also has these nifty book holders!
Not quite your style? Let's try something different - how about a bookcase from Newport Cottages?

Too girly? How about this one, instead?

Oh, I get it! You want modern, right? Okay, modern it is!

Here's Oeuf's mini Library in birch...

And Spot on Square's Roh Shelving (you can check this out in the shop window!)

All of that just a bit too much? What about just a personalized bin from MacBeth?

Okay. Enough of the eye candy, already, right? You really want to just come in and chat with us and pick something out... fantastic! Come on in and do it, we'd love to see you! And while you're at it, check out our selection of books to put in that new bookcase or bin you've picked out!

Bethesda Literary Festival - Reading to Children

Let's talk about something different today!

The Bethesda Literary Festival starts April 20. Check it out - it looks like it will be a lot of fun!

Daisy Baby always carries a few fun children's books. They make great gifts, they're fun to read with your own children... and some of them are just plain cool.

So... why should you buy a book for your kids or as a gift?

According to the Family Literacy Foundation,

* Reading aloud with your children is important in preparing them for school!
* It's good bonding time.
* It'll teach them how to read a book. Yep, there's a no-brainer.
* It'll help them develop listening skills, vocabulary, memory, and critical thinking skills!
* Reading with your kids will enhance their imagination and creativity.
* They learn that reading is fun!

All pretty good reasons, right? But don't you get bored with the Cat in the Hat (not knocking Dr. Seuss here, but everyone gets bored with reading the same old thing right!?)

Well, how about:

Or the ever popular...

And let's not forget tactile books like

It doesn't always have to be the same old books - try something new and different! Actually, one of my favorites, which will be no surprise to you if you've met me, is Eco Babies Wear Green. (Yes, this is Christina again!) So come on into the shop and see what we have - for gifts or your little ones! And while you're at it, make sure you're on our mailing list - we may have a fun announcement closer to the festival!

Big Kid Rooms - What's Your Style?

What is it that’s so special about a child’s room? I really don’t know – but children’s rooms are special! It’s not just that it’s a child’s own space. It’s not just that it can be creative and imaginative and fun. It’s not just that it inspires a child’s imagination, or that the room can be a jungle one minute and a pit of hot lava the next minute. Maybe it’s a combination of all those, or of the whimsy you can add to a child’s room while it still being a part of the cohesive “home” space you’ve created. No matter what it is, there’s no denying that decorating a child’s room is just plain fun.

At Daisy Baby, we strive to make it more fun by carrying many different lines of furniture, bedding, and accessories to meet your child’s needs and imagination… and your sense of style, too.

What are some of our favorite big kid lines?

Stanley Young America carries furniture that’s classic but streamlined. When combined with a pastel color palette, it can be sweet and even old-fashioned… and when combined with a modern color palette, it can be unique and bold!

Everyone knows about Oeuf’s Sparrow crib, and their sleekly modern nursery furniture. But what could you do with their Perch bunk bed? What about not using the bottom bed – and instead using the underneath space as a library, a hideout, a cave, a fort, curtained child’s lair? What would you do with that space?

We’ve talked about modern, and versatile… what about more traditional? Relics furniture makes traditional bench-made furniture. It’s made to order, and comes in a huge variety of finishes. Their cottage styling can be masculine for a little boy, or sweet for a little girl – they even have trundle and day beds.

No matter what you choose for your big kid room, Daisy Baby has it. You know about our custom linens – but come check out our new ready-made linens from Auggie! They’re somehow both sweetly traditional and sleekly modern at the same time. Are you feeling nostalgic for your own room as a child? Excited to design your big kid bedroom? What did you always want to have as a kid? Trundle bed? Canopy? Bunk bed? A dressing table? Tell us about it!
